Dear colleagues,
Dear participants,
Demographic change presents significant challenges for our society, particularly for healthcare systems worldwide. At the same time, scientific and technological advances offer new opportunities to promote health, independence, and quality of life well into old age.
Medical engineering plays a key role in addressing these challenges. Innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, intelligent assistance systems, and digital health technologies have the potential to improve healthcare, support early detection of age-related conditions, and enable people to lead healthier and more independent lives.
With the Conference on Medical Engineering for Healthy Aging (C-MEHA), we aim to establish a platform that brings together researchers, clinicians, engineers, and industry representatives to exchange knowledge, discuss emerging technologies, and explore innovative solutions for healthy aging.
As Spokesperson of the GRANNI Community, I am particularly committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and bridging the gap between scientific research and practical applications. Addressing the complex challenges of an aging society requires us to combine expertise across disciplines and work together towards meaningful and sustainable solutions.
Beyond scientific and technological innovation, we must also consider the structural conditions that shape healthcare in an aging society. Demographic change, workforce shortages, and barriers to the implementation of new technologies highlight the importance of connecting scientific advances with healthcare policy and broader societal developments. C-MEHA will provide an opportunity to reflect on these challenges and discuss how research, innovation, and policy can work together to support sustainable healthcare solutions.
On behalf of the GRANNI Management Team, I warmly invite you to contribute your ideas, research findings, and experiences to C-MEHA 2027. Together, we can inspire new perspectives, strengthen scientific collaboration, and help shape the future of medical engineering for healthy aging.
I look forward to welcoming you to Lübeck on April 15–16, 2027, for inspiring discussions, valuable exchanges, and new opportunities for collaboration.
Kind regards,
Prof. Dr. Thorsten Buzug
